It's Plastic Free July and this year’s a good one to REALLY make things count.
Why so?
Because this July marks 15 years of Plastic Free July. A global movement helping millions of people reduce their plastic waste every single day.
And it all started with one simple question:
What if we said no thank you to single-use plastic… just for a month?
so, what exactly is Plastic Free July?
It’s a month-long challenge that invites people to choose reusable, refillable or low-waste options instead of single-use plastic. Think of it as a 31-day plastic holiday for the planet.
Whether you go fully plastic-free or just make a few swaps, every little change counts because as we always say, when we all come together in large numbers, small swaps really start to add up.
and why is single-use plastic so bad?
Single-use plastic is designed to be used just once… and then discarded.
That means it’s either recycled (unlikely, as only an estimated 12% gets successfully recycled¹), incinerated, heads to landfill or worse just gets dumped into the environment for hundreds (yep, hundreds) of years.
What’s even more frustrating? We often don’t even need it.
We’ve got the tech, the refills, the clever designs and the everyday habits to ditch single-use plastic. We just need more of us to do it.
5 smol (smart) ways to cut it out.
So let’s get down to making a difference with these 5 super simple, super smol swaps.
1. bring your own bottle.
Not a groundbreaking tip but it still works. Millions of plastic water bottles are bought every single minute around the world. Reusables are easy, stylish and save you cash. Win-win.
2. ditch the cling film.
Opt for beeswax wraps, reusable containers or silicone lids instead. You’ll keep your leftovers fresh without wrapping them in plastic guilt.
3. switch up shopping.
Loose fruit and veg. Refill stations. Bread in paper bags from a baker. Supermarkets now offer low-plastic options but you’ve got to look for them (and skip the pre-packed peppers).
4. smol changes at home.
From plastic-free laundry capsule packs to refillable sprays and handwash in cute bottles-for-life; smol is cutting out single-use plastic from household and personal care.
5. share the movement.
Tell a mate. Post a tip. Tag a brand doing good stuff. The more we talk about reducing plastic, the more normal it becomes. And that’s when real change sticks.

ready to give Plastic Free July a go?
It’s not about being perfect. It’s about trying. One habit. One bottle. One lunchbox at a time.
Because the less single-use plastic we rely on, the better it is for our planet, our oceans and our future. And who knows? You might just start a new habit that lasts well beyond July.
