Welcome to smoltalk.
This issue we’re rinsing some sticky myths about cleaning that’s lighter on the planet, getting our hands dirty with our first Get the Dirt Q&A over on Instagram stories, soaking up the joy in smolfest 2025, and sharing a genius moss hack that’ll make your patio safer this autumn without any harsh chemicals. Plus we meet the laundry pros who’ve taken smol into their business and into the Scottish countryside! Let’s get to it…

get the dirt Q&A roundup.
When we asked what you’d love to quiz our smol scientist on, you didn’t hold back.
From sweaty socks to cold washes, you served up the dirt and Nay (our regulatory & compliance whizz) took it all on, in our very first Get the Dirt series on Instagram.
It wasn’t always pretty (looking at you, stained school socks), but it was packed with enzyme secrets, big brand battles, and the kind of answers only a scientist can deliver.
- Can smol capsules really clean at 20°C?
- Do we stack up against the supermarket giants? (Spoiler: yes).
- What’s the deal with socks that never stay white?
The series is live, the stains didn’t win, and the science is surprisingly fun.
SEE THE ANSWERS on Instagram now on our highlights.
Or read more here about our Get the Dirt smol science session.
And in more good news… this is just the first rinse cycle. Keep those questions coming in for Nay (and all our other experts) and we will be back with more dirt soon.

This June (on one of the hottest days of the year) the full smol team came together for our annual smolfest in the Kent countryside. A blend of fun and relaxation that kept the planet front and centre. There were goody bags with gifts from our favourite fellow B Corps, AND our team brought donations for the local Hygiene Bank project, resulting in a table overflowing with essential products for those in need. A great start.
Our friends at The Wonky Parsnip gave plastic-free seeding workshops for us with rainbow, beetroot, pumpkin and spinach that we planted up ready for our gardens at home! And Wildbox bars held mocktail masterclasses helping us stay hydrated in the sunshine!

The day was full of creativity and connection. We explored our artistic sides with reusable bamboo paint pots and vegan brushes to create paintings for our brand new warehouse! And on the beautiful viewing point of Birling Estate we enjoyed calming wellness moments to reset the nervous system. For those seeking more action there was archery and a circus skills workshop! And as the sun began to set, the talented Daisy Clark sang us into the evening.
Our fantastic event planners, The Soul Camp, partnered with powerQuad to save 335 kg CO₂e in powering our event compared to traditional generators. It was another win for the day.
Check out some smolfest happy moments here. It’s no wonder we can’t wait for smolfest 2026.

You’ve probably used soda crystals in the home for laundry, sinks, vinyl floors or even to give your washing machine a bit of TLC (just a spoonful helps fight limescale).
But did you know these humble white salts are also a secret weapon for tackling mossy patios and slippery driveways? Yep, and no harsh chemicals required.
First though, a quick shoutout to moss because it’s a carbon-sinking superstar! So we’re not here to launch war on it, but when it creeps onto pathways or garden steps… things can get a bit treacherous (especially for the old or young).
So here’s how to shift it safely:
- Sprinkle soda crystals generously over mossy paths or patios
- Lightly dampen with a hose or watering can (or just let the rain do its thing)
- Wait a day or two... the moss will turn brown
- Sweep it away with a stiff brush (or a spade, if it’s really clinging on)
What’s the science behind the sparkle? Moss prefers slightly acidic conditions, but baking soda raises the pH level, making it less hospitable for moss. Your paving will be safer (less slippery) without the need for elbow grease or harsh chemicals. Winner.

Ready to meet yet another company that’s joined the smol revolution with big piles of laundry and fresh-as-anything results. At Blush & Bubbles in the Scottish countryside, it’s all about kind-to-skin cleaning, low-impact choices and serious stain-fighting power…
1. What made you choose smol for your laundry business (and what keeps you coming back for more)?
I was already using smol products at home, so it felt natural to use them in Blush & Bubbles when we opened. With a family full of sensitive skin, I know how gentle smol is and that kindness to skin is something I wanted to carry through into the business.
2. Do you have a smol favourite? One product that’s a total game-changer for you?
The stain remover gel is an absolute miracle worker, a total game changer for us! And the fabric conditioners? They smell beautiful. We get so many compliments from customers about how fresh and fragrant the laundry is, the scent really fills the room.

3. Running a laundry business means you’re proper pros so how does smol help you get the job done?
smol delivers excellent results even on cold or delicate washes, which is exactly what we need. It's perfect for our bougie laundry setup; fresh scents, clean clothes, and suitable for all fabrics. It just works, effortlessly.
4. What’s the trickiest item or fabric you have to clean and how do you handle it?
We don’t tend to get particularly tricky items, but we do handle large volumes, especially Airbnb bedding and towels. Thanks to our streamlined routine and reliable products like smol, we rarely have to rewash anything. It gets the job done right the first time, every time.
5. Being based in the beautiful Scottish countryside, does protecting the environment play a part in how you run your business?
Absolutely. From day one, I’ve been really conscious of keeping our environmental impact as low as possible. That commitment runs through everything we do; from the products we use, to our machines, to even the lighting in the shop.
We’re delighted smol helps keep fluff levels high and the rewash pile low for this wonderful laundry business. Do YOU use smol at your company? Drop us an email and maybe you could feature in our next smol in the wild!

Ah, the age-old myth. If it’s lighter on the planet it must be lighter on grime.
Well, we’re here to rinse that idea clean!
From food stains, to body odour, yellow armpits to 48 hour crusty pans… smol keeps pace with the big brands (and often BEATS them).
- smol bio gives 42% more stain removal than a big brand
- whiter whites than big brand names with both bio and non-bio
- stain gel + bio capsules = 27% more stain removal than capsules alone
- 77% LESS liquid than big brands with smol fabric conditioner for the same soft laundry
- testing shows our floor cleaner and multi purpose spray clean just as well as the big brands
- our stain gel works as well as the big brand stain removers without the single-use plastic
We’re here for ALL the cleaning, just none of the waste.

One half of this dynamic duo? smol bio capsules.
They’re better than ever thanks to a new enzyme: deoxyribonuclease (say that 3 times quickly). It targets body odour, sweat and sebum stains. And when tested against 21 stains across 4 fabrics they outperformed a leading brand at just 20°C. Clean, cool and smarter than ever.
Then there’s our stain gel. Bleach-free, but loaded with enzyme tech, it takes on 20+ everyday stains like nobody’s business, from grass and ketchup to mud and mascara.
But together? That’s where the real magic happens.
Pair them up and you’ll see a 27% improvement in stain removal and a whopping 35% boost on greasy stains.
Bio capsules + stain gel = stains? What stains? Now that’s what we call a chemical romance.
Got one but not the other? Time to complete the dream team.
Got neither? Oh gosh, well this is your smol sign.
