Spring!

The season of new beginnings, daffodils, and… litter?

Yup, it’s back. The Great British Spring Clean 2025 could just be the nation’s most ambitious mass-action environmental event yet, and spoiler alert: you’re invited to join the #LitterHeroes squad!

But this isn't your average walk in the park; it’s a rallying call for all of us who believe the environment belongs to everyone. Armed with litter-pickers, bin bags and a healthy dose of community spirit, we’re ready to take on the trash.

Here’s everything you need to know to get involved.

what is the Great British Spring Clean?

It’s a nation united, cleaning up Great Britain in the spring, one crisp packet and plastic bottle at a time. The Great British Spring Clean, spearheaded by Keep Britain Tidy, is the UK’s largest environmental campaign powered by a huge volunteer group. In short, it’s a gargantuan effort by heroic litter-pickers to tackle trash, protect wildlife and make our communities cleaner, greener and simply more fabulous.

Last year (2024) a staggering 425,626 bags of litter were pledged for collection during the campaign. That’s the kind of people-powered impact we’re talking about!

For 2025, the bar is set even higher—half a million bags anyone?

when is it?

Mark your calendars: 21 March - 6 April 2025. Two glorious weeks to grab your litter-picker and make a difference. You can join for an hour, a day or the full two weeks—every bit counts.

why it matters.

Litter isn’t just an eyesore. Some of it has been hanging around since Keep Britain Tidy first launched 70 years ago, slowly releasing harmful greenhouse gases as it decomposes. Retro rubbish might sound cool, but trust us it’s not the kind of nostalgia we need.

Last year’s campaign proved that small actions lead to big change:*

  • 95% of participants felt they made a difference in their local area.
  • 91% said they felt part of a national movement tackling litter head-on.

The message is clear: the environment belongs to everyone and together, we’ve got the power to protect it.

how YOU can get involved.

Joining the Great British Spring Clean is as easy as 1,2,3.

1. pledge your bags.

Visit the Keep Britain Tidy website and commit to collecting a specific number of bags. Whether it’s one or one hundred, your pledge makes a difference.

2. join with others or fly solo.

Join a community clean-up near you to meet like-minded litter heroes OR just meet up with mates or just crack on by yourself. Grab some gloves and a bag, and hit the streets solo.

3. spread the word.

You know the drill. Share your litter-picking adventures on social media using #LitterHeroes. Who knows, you might inspire someone else to join in!

a movement, not a moment.

The Great British Spring Clean isn’t just about two weeks in March. It’s about creating lasting change and showing the big brands that we’re not putting up with their rubbish - literally. Every crisp packet saved from a hedgerow, every single-use plastic bottle picked from the beach is a step closer to a cleaner, greener future.

So, what do you say? Ready to be a part of something big by doing something small?

Grab your litter-picker, pop on your #LitterHero cape and let’s make 2025 the year we hit that half-a-million-bag milestone. Together, we’ll clean up Britain one smol change at a time.
