Here’s everything you need to know about our ingredients, why we use them (or don’t), and how we make sure they’re safe for you and the planet. But first, a quick note on what our concentration means…

… the aquatic life warning.

All our products are super concentrated to reduce packaging and transport emissions. That’s why you’ll sometimes see an aquatic life warning on our labels (it’s a legal requirement for concentrated products). Once diluted for use, smol products are not classified as a concern. The warning only applies if the undiluted product were to spill into a waterway in extremely large quantities (e.g. an industrial accident), which is extremely unlikely.

ingredients we do use (and why).

acrylic copolymer.

• Used in dishwasher tablets to soften water and prevent residue.
• Ours is a liquid, not a microplastic.
• Certified Microplastic Free by Flustix.

animal ingredients.

• We use none. Zero. Zilch. Not even hidden ones like tallow-based fabric softener compounds.

concentrated formulas.

• Less water, requires less packaging and carbon.
• For example, smol laundry capsules produce 35% less CO₂ than benchmark brands.1

cruelty-free.

• Never tested on animals. 
• Never sold in countries where animal testing is required.
• Fully accredited by Cruelty Free International with Leaping Bunny Certification.
• Vegan.

enzymes.

• Naturally help break down stains.
• Ours include amylase, cellulase, lipase, mannanase and phosphodiesterase.

essential oils & fragrance.

• Ethically sourced essential oils plus some synthetics.
• Contains traces of linalool and limonene.
• For allergens, please contact us (help@smolproducts.com) and we’ll advise.

palm oil.

• Only RSPO-certified palm derivatives.
• Suppliers surveyed regularly for compliance.

phosphonates.

• Not to be confused with phosphates.
• Phosponates do not bioaccumulate or harm aquatic life.

polyvinyl alcohol (PVA).

• Used in our capsule film.
• Fully water-soluble and biodegradable into CO₂ and water.
• Passes stringent OECD biodegradability testing.

optical brighteners.

• Keep whites bright and reduce greying.
• Ours is readily biodegradable (OECD 301F test).

sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS).

• A surfactant that lifts oily dirt.
• Safe and widely used, even by many “eco brands”.

ingredients we never use:

Phosphates (bad for waterways); Methylisothiazolinone; Benzenes; Parabens; Phthalates; Zeolites; Triclosan; Lilial.
