Quick wash cheat sheet for laundry:
- Quick wash cycles can be brilliant for lightly soiled clothes.
- They work best when you use the right detergent and avoid overloading the drum.
- Ideal for freshening everyday laundry, but not every wash should be a quick one.
- Washing full loads is usually the most sustainable way to do your laundry.
- We independently tested our Laundry Liquid in a 15-minute wash. The results might surprise you.
Picture this:
The top you wanted to wear is buried at the bottom of the laundry basket. It doesn’t look good. You’re due to go out in a few hours. Sound familiar?
That 15-minute Quick Wash button looks tempting.
Does it work?
Yes... but there are a few things you need to know.

What is a quick wash cycle?
A quick wash cycle is a short washing programme that should freshen clothes in a fraction of the time of a standard cycle.
Most washing machines have one, usually lasting around 15 minutes. They're designed for:
- Clothes that are only slightly grubby
- Gym kit that just needs a refresh
- Last-minute laundry emergencies
They're not really meant for heavily soiled laundry where a longer wash is still your best bet.
How can clothes get clean so quickly?
Does a shorter wash mean worse cleaning?
Not necessarily.
Modern washing machines use drum movement, water temperature and detergent chemistry really well nowadays. But it does mean your detergent has to get to work quickly.
A good laundry liquid should start breaking down stains almost as soon as the wash starts, that means it can be helping to lift dirt before the cycle has even reached the halfway point.
When to pick a fast wash.
Some loads get the go-ahead on a 15-minute cycle, while others usually don’t.

Top tips for getting the best from a quick wash.
A few simple habits can make a big difference.
Don't overload the drum. Clothes need room to move.
Use the correct detergent dose.
Treat stubborn stains before washing if possible.
Just use quick washes for light to medium soiled clothes.
Wash at the temperature recommended on your garment care label.
Give heavily soiled items a longer programme when they need it.
Your washing machine deserves a full house.
IMPORTANT TO NOTE:
Quick washes are fantastic. But they shouldn't become a default.
Running a machine for one T-shirt and a pair of socks still uses water, energy and detergent. So if it can wait, let the laundry pile grow a little and wash a fuller load instead.
Think of the quick wash as an emergency button for your laundry, not your everyday setting.
Does the detergent you use matter?
Yes.
Quick wash programmes give detergent less time to work, so the formula has to start tackling stains immediately. Having the right detergent (hello smol!) is super important.
We were curious to see how our own Laundry Liquid performed in a 15-minute wash, so we asked Eurofins Product Testing Services to compare it with Persil Wonder Wash Non-Bio.
The results showed comparable stain removal overall, with smol keeping whites brighter over repeated washes.¹
